Build Diary

Tuesday 18th May, 2004

Ok, work on my chassis has begun. I have measured, cut and filed the bottom section of the chassis (tubes A1, A2, B1, B2, C, D1, D2, E, F1 and F2) and I've done it twice. Not through choice, it's more to do with impatience. I started, and you can call me stupid, to fully weld all of the joints instead of just tacking them. As a result I've taken an angle grinder to the original chassis and salvaged what I can. I think I have lost about 2 meters of steel at a cost of less than £5.00. Mk II of the chassis is now underway and the photo's can be seen in the photo section. I have now reached the same point as the previous attempt, but in addition I have progressed to tacking the H tubes in place.

Apologies if you don't understand the references, but you should probably buy a copy of the book.

I have also started work on the L sections at the nose of the chassis, but am having a few problems with the compound angles of tubes LA and LB. In an attempt to make life a little easier I am trying to get hold of a copy of AutoCAD to allow me to accurately draw and measure these tubes. I don't want to waste any more steel.
