Build Diary

Saturday 3rd April, 2004

I have finally decided to give in to the donor route. Having sourced a particularly cheap Sierra, I now intend to harvest a variety of parts that would have otherwise cost almost £300 from my local scrap yard. The car in question is a base model 1800 L with a leaky fuel tank. I have no need for the engine as I already have a 1600 CVH from an Escort L, which has infinitely more tuning parts available than it's larger cousin. The only thing that I would be interested in finding out is if there is any difference in the sump baffles and oil pick-up, this is because the engine in the Sierra is designed to be mounted in-line, as opposed the Escort engine which is normally transversely mounted.

Hopefully anything that is not of use will return from whence it came, namely eBay, to try to recoup the already minimal outlay for the car it's self and provide further funds for the build.

The parts that I'm hoping to use are the front hubs, disks and calipers, the gearbox, the prop shaft, the transmission, drive shafts, rear hubs and brakes, the radiator, the header tank, the wheels, the steering rack and the battery. Depending on the style, I may also use the repeaters. Pretty much everything else will be sold on.
